Acupuncture Services for Pets

Acupuncture is a form of Traditional Chinese Medicine that is used to reduce joint pain and promote healing in humans and pets. Acupuncture is usually used with other forms of therapy to provide a more diverse treatment plan that caters to all ailments. It has proven to be valuable especially in pain relief as it is safer than increasing dosage of a certain drug. How can acupuncture help my pet?

Acupuncture can help pets suffering from various health conditions. It is a great alternative to surgery and or medications. At our hospital we prescribe acupuncture for patients suffering from:

  • Inflammation
  • Chronic pain
  • Feline hyperthyroidism
  • Epilepsy
  • Stroke
  • Skin allergies
  • Asthma
  • Cystitis

What’s acupuncture like for my pet?

During acupuncture your furry friend is completely safe and comfortable. Their first session may last up to 30 minutes. At our hospital our acupuncturist works carefully to insert tiny needles into the treatment areas to stimulate the nervous system and circulation. The needles do not cause any pain for your pet, in fact most pets find the treatment relaxing and fall asleep. Since the procedure is painless, pets don’t need to be sedated. If your pet has a fear of needles or they are sensitive to the treatment we may use acupressure instead. Acupressure uses the fingers or hands instead of needles to apply pressure to the treatment areas.

How often will my pet need acupuncture treatments?

This will be determined by the veterinarian. When creating a treatment plan the specific health condition and the end goal are the deciding factors as to how frequently your pet will need treatment. Our patients typically show improvement after the first three or four sessions.
