Surgical Services

Surgery for your cherished pet sounds scary and can be stressful for everyone in the family. To reduce the risks associated with any invasive procedure, our team follows strict guidelines. This includes pre-anesthetic screening, closely monitoring vital signs during surgery and providing medication that aids recovery. When your pet has a procedure scheduled at Manzini Animal Hospital, you can rest assured their safety is our main priority.

What happens before surgery?

Our team runs tests to prevent anesthetic complications and ensure your pet is healthy enough to undergo surgery. Our comprehensive exam shows complete blood count, kidney function, liver enzymes, minerals, electrolytes and clotting factors in your pet. Based on the results, our veterinarians determine the safe amount of anesthesia for your individual pet.

What types of surgeries are performed at your hospital?

At Manzini Animal Hospital we perform:

  • Mass removals
  • Spays and neuters
  • CryoProbe (to remove eyelid tumours and corneal ulcers)
  • Bladder surgery
  • Laceration repairs
  • Dental surgeries

How can I prepare my pet for surgery?

For most surgical procedures, we may encourage pet owners to have their pets fast for 8 hours beforehand. If your pet’s surgery has unique conditions our team will inform you of any special guidelines. A great way to prepare your pet for surgery is for you to be relaxed so your pet won’t pick up on your anxiety. Once the surgery is complete our team will provide pain management medications for home recovery and tips on how to make recovery more seamless. To learn more about your pet’s upcoming procedure, we encourage you to call us at 250.724.4444.
