Hospital Policies

Appointments:

We recommend booking an appointment. If you have an urgent concern, we do have Same Day Urgent Care appointments available throughout the day. Once those urgent care appointments are full, we may have to refer you to another clinic or the Emergency Hospital in Nanaimo. While we wish to see all our clients when they have an emergency, we cannot always accomplish this as we may have had multiple emergencies already that day. If you think your pet is doing poorly, we recommend calling first thing in the morning at 8:30 am so all the urgent care appointments are not already used.

We do try to triage urgent cases so they are seen right away. If your pet requires an urgent to you vaccine in order to get into a boarding kennel, we may not be able to accommodate this and may need to save these spots for very ill pets. While we are committed to seeing each client on time, delays can happen, and we apologize for the impact this has on our clients and their pets. Some delays may be created by emergency cases, as these will always receive a higher priority.

We make every effort to make our patients feel comfortable during visits. To ensure this, we require that all dogs are placed on a short leash and all cats are placed in pet carriers before entering the hospital. Our client care team will lend you a leash or a carrier for the duration of your visit if you arrive without one.

Missed Appointment Policy:

Please note that missing an appointment or surgery without canceling prevents other pets from receiving care. If you know you will be unable to attend an appointment, please call us to cancel as soon as possible. Missed appointments or cancellations with less than 48 hours’ notice will have a fee before the veterinarian will see you again.

This policy is in place to provide fair access to care – especially now with B.C.’s veterinarian shortage. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

After Hours Care:

Manzini Animal Hospital is a full-service veterinary facility. We are fully staffed during regular business hours and have a dedicated team providing care for all our hospitalized patients. After regular business hours, we do not have staff on site. We recommend that all patients requiring intensive overnight care and monitoring be admitted to Central Island Veterinary Emergency Hospital in Nanaimo where 24-hour emergency and critical care can be provided.

In situations where an owner prefers their pet stay in our clinic overnight, we require them to read and sign a waiver regarding the risks of a pet not being monitored overnight during hospitalization.
